ST OLAF’S PARENTS GET SMART WITH SMARTPHONES

St Olaf’s Parents Association launched its first “No Smartphone Voluntary Code” this November and are delighted with the enthusiasm and support from the parents. This is a parent led initiative but has the full support of Mr. Murtagh, Principal, and the Board of Management.

71% of the parents from Junior Infants to 5th class signed up to this voluntary code, in which parents agree not to let their children have a personal smartphone until secondary school. The class percentages are broken down as follows:

Junior Infants – 69%

Senior Infants – 79%

1st class – 79%

2nd class - 58%

3rd class – 56%

4th class – 93%

5th class – 60%

As this is the first year that this code has been introduced at St Olaf’s, it didn’t apply to the current 6th classes but will apply to all classes from next year onwards.
