Bilingual Books

As part of the Say Yes to Languages programme St. Olaf's have received a grant to promote languages across the school. The two 5^th classes have been fortunate to experience 10 weeks of beginners Spanish and are now continuing to learn Spanish and German with student teachers from U.C.D. We are delighted to add a selection of books available for children in their home languages. We now have a mobile library trolley in the school with a selection of bilingual books in Irish, Chinese, Hindi, German, French, Spanish, Swahili, Portuguese, Arabic, Polish, Russian and Italian. Sixth class pupils carried out some research on the most widely spoken languages across the school and books were purchased based on their availability from the bookshop. Some of our children in senior classes will be doing some buddy reading with children from younger classes in the near future using these bilingual books.
